Choosing Calgary Lofts

Calgary’s lofts are usually renovated living spaces located in the upper parts of larger buildings like industrial buildings or old historic homes. Lofts tend to be very open, often with the bathroom being the only closed in room in the residence.

Lofts can be finished so that they retain much of their industrial atmosphere with exposed ducts and brickwork or given a more polished finishing that gives the loft a less rough interior.

Lofts tend to fall into two main groups, hard and soft lofts. Hard lofts are renovated buildings previously used for industrial purposes that have later been renovated for residential use to extend their usefulness. Soft lofts, in contrast, are built as residential properties in a loft style; generally, these soft lofts incorporate open floor plans, high ceilings, and central locations to give home buyers the benefits of loft living without the genuine industrial features that hard lofts offer.

More About Calgary Lofts

Lofts in Calgary are generally located in the downtown core. Some of the lofts that can be found in Calgary are: Chartreuce, Hudson Lofts, Imperial Lofts, and Orange Lofts.

In the Inglewood neighbourhood, Charteuce lofts are a popular choice with buyers. Built in 2001, these soft-lofts have a great modern industrial style and are comprised of two or three storeys each.

Connaught’s Hudson lofts are located in a warehouse building from 1909 which was converted for residential use in the mid 90s. These Calgary loft homes have iconic over-height ceilings and exposed brickwork.

Imperial lofts began their existence in Victoria Park as a warehouse in 1912 and were converted to residences in 1996. Due to the nature of the original buildings, the lofts here have a lot of variation between them. Imperial lofts range in size from about 650 up to over 1200 square feet. You can find such great loft elements here as over-height ceilings, suspended loft bedrooms, and huge windows.

Orange lofts are popular with buyers who want to live right in the core of downtown’s East Village in a really unique development. While they aren’t real converted lofts, they do have a great industrial feel to them nonetheless. Orange lofts have 15 ft ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and many more great features.
