The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1989 (from the Municipal District of Rocky View), and Royal Oak was established in 1998. Royal Oak real estate is made up of mostly single family homes, with some townhomes, condos and a few duplexes available as well.

The majority of shopping in the area can be found minutes away at Crowfoot Center and Beacon Hill Center. Crowfoot Center boasts over 240 shops and services, including a variety of excellent restaurants such as Shanks Sports Bar, Montana’s Cookhouse and Joey tomatoes just to name a few. Completed in 2008, Beacon Hill Center is another nearby first class shopping complex. It includes flagship stores like Costco, Home Depot and Canadian Tire with over 50 more shops and services. Inside the community is the new Royal Oak Shopping Centre. This Mall features many stores including a Walmart, Sobeys and a London Drugs, just steps away from the community. With these three malls located conveniently nearby, resident are sure to find everything they’re looking.

The Calgary school board is also expanding into the community with the brand new Royal Oak School, a public K-4 elementary school which will be ready for its first year of operation in September 2010. This new school will accommodate approximately 550 children from both Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge. Other public schools serving the area are Belvedere – Parkway School (K-4), Simon Fraser School (5-9), and Bowness High School (10-12). The separate schools serving the community are St. Sylvester (K-6), St. Jean Brebeuf Junior High (7-9), and St. Francis Senior High (10-12).

As one of the youngest communities in Calgary it is experiencing rapid growth and the City of Calgary has responded by agreeing to complete the final station on the C-Train’s Northwest Line, Tuscany/Rocky Ridge, and a Police-Fire-Ambulance Hub by 2014. These developments plus the completion of the Northwest section of the Calgary Ring Road, ensure that Royal Oak homes enjoy some of the best views, shopping, and growth that Calgary has to offer.
